Cox Communications TRIPLES the cost of cable cards…

Well, at least they’re not dropping them altogether.
I’ve got four working TiVo’s, and the CC price just went from $2 to $6 month per card.
CSR said they were hoping people stop using them.
Because it costs them nothing to support, really.
Man, there are many days I wish cable wasn’t a monopoly.
Thanks Ajit Pai, I’m still blaming you for all of this…

I'm sure there aren't many cablecard users left any more. It never amounted to a large number of people (with TIVO being the most successful commercially available devices), and I would assume that a great number have moved on to other systems.

I'm still hanging on to my cablecard as long as possible. Using SageTV, I pay $2/mo for my card (Spectrum/Charter) and I don't rent a single cable box. All viewing is done with HD-300 extenders or the SageTV client apps. I know lots of families that are paying $20, $30, even $50 a month just for cable boxes!

You're right though, Ajit Pai was a corporate shill in the FCC office and catered to their every whim.

I'm running one here on Comcast in California on an HDHomeRun Prime. It took 2 on-site techs and another on the phone at the head-end to get the card working many years ago when getting the box.

If/when support for the cards ends, I wonder how much Silicon Dust will care, they only have a single cablecard product now I think and do a lot more in OTA and streaming.

I hear you. I've been paying $4.99 for each of my four card on FiOS for a long time. That gives me 13 tuners though! Will keep them as long as I can.
