HD extender - No volume control on HD programs

Hi all, I am using the optical out on my HD extender to connect to my receiver. It seems that when watching standard def programs, The sagetv volume control works normally, but when watching HD programs the volume stays at one level regardless of what I do in sage, and can only be set from the receiver. Anyone else seen this or know how to fix it?

I believe it's because the HD extender uses pass-thru for AC3 audio.

If you are using the digital audio out through your receiver then that is the way it works. My HD Extender in the living room is set up like that. Component out to receiver and then to TV, digital audio out to receiver and then to speakers.
HD progams require using the volume on the receiver to adjust volume while SD programs allow you to use the volume on the HD Extender remote (NOTE: receiver volume also works).

My HD Extender in the bedroom is hooked direct to the TV component and stereo audio. All programs, HD or SD, allow use of the HD Extender remote to control volume.
