trial user in need of help (recording composite in)

CLIFFS NOTES: Bold is important non bold is not.

First let me say I love sagetv.

i have a wintv 1800 that works great with hd OTA and cable. I am having one problem tho.

I am converting MANY old vhs tapes to digital and sagetv is the only software I have found that will record audio and video (from the card... i can do it from the audio card but then the audio is outta sync and i gotta spend an extra 30 min per tape which is un acceptable)

anyways, how do I record video from composite to one file? I would like to just press a record button then a stop button when I am done.

All i have been able to do is tell sagetv to record 2 hour segments of the composite channel... it may or may not make it all one file and to end the file i have to close sage then get the file outta the folder, reopem sage and turn off recording.

so how should I go about recording anaolog video from a vhs tape from the compostie in? should i use different software for this... I am probably gonna buy sagetv anyway cuz it is boss (I love the way it mixes OTA HD and cable)

Many thanks and props to everyone involved with the creation of sagetv

If you go into Setup Video Sources, after you select the WinTV 1800 there should be a screen which gives you a Composite input choice.

I've used GraphEdit to digitize VHS tapes. It took some fiddling to build the right graph, but after that it's just a matter of clicking Record to start recording and Stop to stop. (And you can save the graph for later reuse.)

I don't have an HVR 1800 so I can't help with the specifics of constructing the graph. But a quick Google turned up this:

You can also use Hauppauge's own (basic) Media Software for recording from the HVR1800. I use it for recording from my VCR to my PVR500's.

WinTV never worked well for me.

Anyways, I got graphedit working and it is great. The only problem I have is it creates massive avi files. with this setup a 20 second avi is 400mb... any ideas?

Insert an MPEG encoder filter between the capture filter and the file writer to compress the video down before saving it to disk. Sorry I don't have my graph in front of me right now but if I recall correctly I used the SageTV Mpeg Encoder.

I get an error when I do this.

Code:
The graph could not change state.

The sample start time is after the sample end time.
