signal strength

I'm having one channel (OTA) that is giving me a lower signal strength on my HDHR.
It bounces from 75-95 and at times will hiccup my recording.
My other tuners are at 100% and reading here most say that the HDHR has the best sensitivity, which gives me some concern. This is at channel 4-1 (CBS in Buffalo NY) digital ch.38

My tuners: This is on ch. 4-1 only
Haup. -1600 = 100%
Haup. -950q = 100%
HDHR = 75-95% both tuners
Haup. 1800 = same as above, but always gave me trouble. Came with the Quad computer.

Had 4 output amp on it. same
Had 4 splitter on it. same
Swap cables many times. same
Could I have a problem with the HDHR or am I being a little picky?

Sounds a little like a multi-path problem. That is where the signal bounces off a nearby hill or tree and gets to the antenna a fraction of a second later then the original signal. This will confuse the tuner. You will see the bars fluctuate a lot and then occasionally to zero. Picture usually seems jerky.

Is the CBS station in a different direction than most of the other stations?

Sometime just moving the antenna a little will fix it, especially if you have a directional antenna.

The HDHR is about as good at dealing with this as any tuner I have used. Different Antennas do better at filtering out multi-path than others.

This is my experience also, the HDHomerun's are my weakest tuners. You could try aiming the antenna to peak reception of ch.38 and add an amplifier which delivers the signal at the HDHomeRun with +15dBmV signal strength. You should have a solid 100% signal level indication at the HDHomerun then.

My two HDHomeRun's refuse to tune ch.18 (except when I hold a hand held flat panel antenna 90 degrees to the station). I have been atempting to resolve this issue for four months. It is begining to look like the HDHomeRun tuners actually tries to receive two channels at the same time, (due to poor signal rejection), causing the signal level to vary wildly as the tuner atempts to lock.
