How to Create Hockey Team Favorite?

Okay, I'd like to create a Favorite to record all the Detroit Red Wings games.

I'm having the darnedest time trying to figure out how to do it. If I go to the guide, find a game, and look at the Program Information, I see:

NHL Hockey
"Detroit Red Wings at Chicago Blackhawks"

Airs on:
blah blah blah
Category Sports even / Hockey
ShowID: SPxxxxxxxx

If I search on "red wings" from the program guide, this item only shows up when searching by description or all fields. However, neither of those two options exist when I try to create a Favorite.

Soooo, I'm currently thinking I have to manually schedule games of a certain team -- is that right?

[I have a head cold AND a headache so I know I'm not thinking clearly so please feel free to point out the obvious! ]

You can create a Keyword favourite, and for the keyword you can put "Detroit Red Wings".

I was just coming back to add that to my post.

It doesn't work. I enter "red wings" for the keyword, the favorite is created, but when I go to check additional airings, none of the live games show up, just an episode from "Classic Series".

Ah, apparently, one should include "reruns" as well? That gives me too many but it's something I can work with I think.

I just tried it with "Vancouver Canucks", and it scheduled 3 upcoming games to be recorded. Did you set the keyword favourite to "All Fields" or just "Title"?

I selected "All Fields" I'm pretty sure...

Yup, just did a keyword "canucks", selected "all fields" and have NO airings But they all show up as soon as I add "reruns".

My guide data hates me

Would there be any problem just leaving it to record "reruns" too? Obviously they're not reruns, and old hockey games don't get replayed very often.

Nope, not a problem so that's exactly what I'm doing I'll check periodically and mark unwanted stuff as "watched".

Been doing this for several years. Have a keyword favourite for Leafs (ya, I know...). For some reason, the guide seems to mark hockey games as re-runs.

All my Oilers games are reruns as well. I have limited the channels that it records on to avoid some of the rogue recordings, but if something shows up its pretty easy to delete or set watched before it records.

Make sure you get SRE so that you don't miss the end of the games.

I've got my Tampa Bay games setup for first runs or re-runs as well. Of course it is sometimes difficult for me to distinguish between first runs and re-runs because the results are so similar

I simply add 30 minutes for any kind of sports recording by default. Works pretty well (except for the playoffs)

Shameless plug...

With SRE, there's no guessing, it just monitors the game for you and extends it if it goes long, if it doesn't then it just lets the recording stop on time and you need not occupy a tuner for an extra 30 mins for nothing.

I think everyone should send a feature request to Narflex asking for Sage to import and make available the "live" flag from the Zap2It tv data. Zap2It actually marks the live airing of games with this flag, which, if available in Sage, would make it very easy to record only the live airings of sporting events. Right now, Sage does not import nor expose this flag in its listings. All Sage has to do is import this flag and mark "live" airings as first runs and then all we have to do is change our favs to record first runs only and life is good.

Yes, I agree. I'll probably give this a try pretty soon...

Hey Slugger,

I've installed SRE but I'm not sure what I need to beyond that? If you can point me to a post in the SRE thread or in the general direction that would be great. Currently I have the yellow caution/warning triangle for everything and everything is checked on. Does this mean it's working? Do I need to only have the games checked?

I'll definitely send SageTV support a note about importing the Live flag -- seems like a no-brainer to me

Thanks!

Support thread: http://forums.sagetv.com/forums/showthread.php?t=48413

First thing you need to do is make sure you've got your Google account registered so you it can access the livepvr data. That is done via the web interface.

Next thing to note is that the yellow triangle is normal. It will change about 10:00 AM on the date of the game.

Yes, I've done the Google bit (you can't get past the opening screen without it)

That thread is 11 pages long and there's still no documentation which is why I asked if there's anything beyond the initial install for it to "just work".

I think that is normal if you recently set up SRE. The same thing happened to me when I first set this up. After a few days all yellow icons disappeared and everything has been working great.

Yellow icons should disappear for all recordings within 30 minutes of setting up your Google account in SRE, except for sports events that should be monitored. If you see yellow icons for non-sports events for longer than 30 mins after a recording appears in your schedule then I'd like to see some SRE logs.

There's a long back story as to why monitored events have the yellow icon up until game day. Gory details are buried in the support thread somewhere.

As to more detailed documentation... I promise it's on its way. I am a month or two (hopefully closer to 1 than 2) away from having all of my (active) plugins completely ported to Sage v7. Once that's done and stable then I will be revisiting all my documentation and refreshing it for v7. The plan was to refresh the docs as I ported, but since I don't have to report to a project manager each week for this project, I'll admit I put the "uninteresting" work, like documentation, on the back burner and kept churning out Java code.
