HD300 audio dropouts?

I just got an HD300 and love being able to not worry about codecs.

I noticed that for some commercials the audio drops out. I wouldn't mind that too much, but the "last scene" for shows like The Office and 30 Rock tonight also were without sound. The dropouts are definitely tied to the commercials and trailing scenes--the sound stops at the commercial, and as soon as the show starts it comes right back.

This seemed like a format issue to me, so I tried switching from PCM to digital bitstream, but that didn't help. My receiver is reporting Dolby D, and doesn't try to switch encodings at the commercial transitions.

i don't have that problem here. i use hdmi from hd300 to my Duo video processor, then hdmi for audio to AVR and hdmi for video to TV set. i have hdmi1.3 mode set for audio. my recordings are made with hdhr and hdpvr boxes.

can you describe your configuration in more detail? what source are you recording from, STB, satellite, etc.

I have optical out doing to a Denon receiver. This is an MPEG2 stream from over-the-air HDTV, captured using a HDHomerun receiver (the older model).

My HDHomerun's firmware is up-to-date.

I think the audio encoding can change mid-stream in HD. Is there some way to dump the encoding information, perhaps using some tool on my computer?

Just a follow-up. The problem was AC3 interacting with my receiver. I ended up setting my receiver to one of the other modes--Dolby Stereo, I think, and it works fine. I also set Mediashrink to compress to MP3 rather than storing AC3, which mitigates it more.
