Baby step for the interm?
Hey Opus4 (Andy) or Narflex (Jeff)
Perhaps this is asking too much. As open source is not far off. So as a baby step in that direction. Can a service (webpage) be setup to get software keys for the current version(s) of the sagetv software? Personally I would like to try setting up some network encoders using the Linux version but I only have a sagetv server license for windows. D |

No, we cannot generate license keys to give away for the existing application. There are licensed components in the application...these components will be removed from the open source version.

That is a fair response, it was a hopeful idea.
Thanks for the quick reply. Best to kill a idea quickly before too many people get their hopes up ![]() D |

What licensed components are we losing?

Maybe the licensing key generation algorithms themselves?

I think Slugger was mentioning that the EPG may have some licensing components and may have to be removed or changed before the code is opened up.
Under an OS world we may have to pay a fee for guide data - isn't this the case with Myth today?

I think the issue is more around guide data for the OS version of Sage rather than those of us running the V7 (and earlier) commercial versions of Sage.
Here is the post that I was referring to: http://forums.sagetv.com/forums/show...6&postcount=58

I'm pretty sure at least the inbuilt MPEG2 decoder is licensed
