Overly conditioned to skip commercials

I've gotten way too conditioned to skip commercials.

A guy on a show I was watching last night had his TV on. When the show he was watching went to a commercial, I picked up my remote and nearly hit FF to skip that commercial.

He shot his TV, so I guess I'm still doing OK, all things considered.

The funny thing is that I had forgotten how bad commercials actually were (are?) since I've gotten so used to it. Playing the same ones over and over.

It's hard to watch TV with commercials.

My kids actually think of commercials as a novelty. If I can't reach the remote and a commercial starts rolling they complain if I skip it.

On occasion I find myself wanted to skip back 10 seconds when listening to the radio... or "listening" to my wife... That would be a real breakthrough!

Haha! This is totally my kids. They hardly ever see commercials at all, so they can't wait until I "catch up to real time" during the ball game so they can watch commercials.
Skipping back 10 seconds on my listening would be a nice feature too.

When my oldest daughter (almost 3) saw that her show went to a commercial (didn't autoskip for some reason) she comes running "the TV is broken. the TV is broken".

Kids don't know how good they've got it.

My kids don't want to avoid commercials - I want to avoid letting them see them. For me, avoiding commercials is avoiding the kids screaming "I WANT THAT!!!".

Think about it, when we were kids, we learned about all the best toys, the best candy, and the yummiest sugary cereals from TV commercials. Commercial time was basically "begin to assemble your Christmas wish list" time.... or sometimes just "I want ALL of that".

When we are somewhere with live TV and they are watching a kids' show, with kid-aimed commercials, their eyes get the size of saucers. GASP! CAN WE GET THAT?!?!?

I honestly think my kids have no clue of how many cool toys and delicious cereals there actually are. ......And I'm fine with that.

Yeah, my kids don't skip commercials often. They are usually watching live so they don't have the burden of deciding what to watch anyway.

I will say that with most cartoons going to 13 minute formats lately, there aren't 'commercial breaks' like in the old days of cartoons. They get a full uninterrupted 13 minute episode, then a break, and then another unrelated full uninterrupted 13 minute episode.

Mine are still pretty little (soon to be 2 and 3) so the "I want that" hasn't started...yet.

It's interesting how that is a thing now. Pretty cool for them to be able to watch an entire episode without interruption.

Mine are used to commercials now, but it was pretty funny when the oldest thought the TV was broke.

Not having cable, my kids (7.5 and about to be 5) mostly watch PBS cartoons. So they are accustomed to 22 minutes with no commercials and then 8 minutes of "stuff" (some of which is commercials). Typically we hit stop once the show ends (and occasionally I get ambitious and convert the recordings and chop off those 8 minutes anyway). When we download stuff through PlayOn from Nick Jr or Disney, it has no commercials. So about their only exposure is the occasional Saturday morning NBC cartoons (content from Sprout channel), and then whatever they see at friends' houses or their grandparent's house. That's when we mostly get the I WANT THAT!

My kids grew up never watching commercials thanks to Sage. If a commercial plays for 2 seconds it like “Who’s got the remote? FF!”. They can’t stand watching commercials. Hehe. We are all very thankful for the Sage experience.

On a side note we wanted to watch an old recording of Seinfeld yesterday that is in the archives, I was curious when Sage recorded it so had a look. It was from February 2006! That would be unheard of without Sage. The kids were interested in seeing some of the old commercials ironically.

I was watching a TV show the other day and the character was watching TV for a moment and a commercial came on. I went to grab the remote to FF and stopped as I caught myself beginning to reach for it.

So I'm not the only one, apparently.

When we are away on vacation and I can not get a good WiFi signal, we end up watching live TV. I keep grabbing the remote to pause and rewind.

No, you are not the only one.
