Dish to DirecTV need advice pls.

Looking at switching from Dish Network to DirecTV. I currently have a dish network 301 working w/ my htpc via hauppauge 150 and standard remote, sux but it works fine for me. Are there any "gotcha's" that I need to be aware of in switching to DirecTV? Can this be setup the same as Dish?

if you think you will want HD from SAT within Sage within the next 5 years, stay with Dish. No R5000 Sat receiver mod for DirectTV mpeg4 on the horizon.

Not all Sage users are interested in HD. After all, that's why the bundled Sage MPEG decoder is so crappy for HD playback. :-(

thx

Not planning on doing the HD thing for a while......or at least until my 53in Sony SD TV goes out. I'll eventually do it....but not anytime soon.

I'm currently using the IRBlaster which of course uses WINTV channels if I'm not mistaken. I forgot how to set the channels back up once I move to Directv....don't you just do a search in WINTV for the new channels, or do they have to be added manually?

If you are using the Hauppauge IRBlaster, you need to use the Hauppauge utility to set up the blaster so it sends the right commands to your Cable / DishTV / DirectTV Tuner box. Then you go to the Setup Menu in Sage to tell it what channel lineup to use for each of your tuners. Then you can fine tune from within Sage by enabling or disabling the channels you want or don't want.

I don't have DirectTV so I can't give you any other specific pointers.
