SageTV and windows 7

Not supported at the moment.

But why?

And is that something currently subject to beta test and what do I need to do to set my server up to beta test it?

Hope you can help.

Many thanks,

Michael

Are you asking or stating that SageTV is not supported in W7?

I am running SageTV in W7 32bit with no issues at all.

Basically I have bought a new server box with windows 7 64bit Ultimate.

I emailed supported before buying asking:

"Can you tell me about compatibility of SageTV media centre and my HD200 extenders with...

64 bit hardware in general
Windows Vista (64bit)
Windows 7 (64bit)
64 bit hardware but running a 32bit OS"

and they said..

"We support all the above configurations except for Window 7. We don't support Windows 7 at this time, but we are working on adding support..."

I noticed in the forums that some people had had some success with windows 7 so I decided to risk it I can always install another OS iif win7 doesn't work for me.

I have installed SageTV and connected a tuner and I haven't noticed any issues yet.

So I was wondering - is that something that people are beta testing if its not supported yet?

Michael

I've been running SageTV under Windows 7 x64 Home Premium for months without problem.

When products are described as "not supported" and "working on adding support" it looks worrying and doesn't actually tell people what they want to know, which is "it it likely to work or not?".

Lots of software companies do this when a more helpful response would be "we believe it all works perfectly but we haven't got round to checking it out yet so you're on your own if it doesn't".

Of course they don't say that because of the obvious follow up question: "Why?".

I made the switch from XP Pro to Win7 this week. Sage itself seems to handle Win7 just fine, though it doesn't follow Microsoft's guidelines on where data should be stored so it can get a little quirky if UAC (User Access Control) is enabled.

Having said that, there were lots of little gotchas that I encountered. I started a SageTV on Win7 FAQ thread to document the questions I think people are likely to have. Feel free to add post your own questions (or answers) at the end of the thread, and I will try to update the first post periodically.

I'm building a new server, and will run Server 2008 (x86). I haven't found any posts about this OS, but don't expect any trouble. Has anyone had any experience with this combo?

I don't feel you will find much here on it. I don't see much reason to spend extra on server 2k8 for a sage server, as opposed to just using Win7, or WHS.

I just had it lying around, so I figured it could be put to use for my updated Sage server. It was that or this copy of Server 2K3 Web Edition, but that doesn't support more than 2Gb of RAM, and I have 4Gb to use. Unless there's a compelling reason to go with Win7 Pro, which I have available as well. I see mention of the EVR renderer in Win7 in Tiki's Win7 FAQ, but that's probably Ultimate only anyway.

EVR is available in all versions of windows 7 but will only be needed for playback on that particular machine. for a headless sever you won't need EVR

I have been using Windows 7 x64 for a while without any issues.

The only thing I had to change was to disable UAC on the server so I could use the STV update feature, however I believe this was also the case for Vista.

The only other item I can think of is if you also use your 7 server as a file server then you need to change your nonpaged pool server configuration to avoid the 2017 error. Here is a link for that: http://alan.lamielle.net/2009/09/03/...srv-error-2017
