Plugins, SageTV and UAC in vista/win7

If an installer for a SageTV external utility needs to make some changes to Sage.properties or copy a file into the SageTV JARs directory...

It seems that running under an elevated command prompt is not enough.

SageTV will not see the Sage.properties changes and will not see the extra JAR file.

But they are there and visible for the user than ran the install.

Its Windows UAC getting in the way.

Does this problem sound familar - has any one tackled this one in any SageTV customisation?

Michael

When UAC is enabled (both in Vista and Windows 7)The only way you can run with an elevated is using the (run as administrator) command or start the command prompt with that command. No matter what ID you log in as including Adminstrator, Windows has split the login token so when you run an application or a command prompt you are running it as a limited typical user. And that is when Sage is redirected to use the Virtual store. Unless the Sage directory is installed somewhere other than Program Files or you explictly give full permissions to the Program File\SageTV directory this is the way UAC is designed to work. I think this is an issue that Sage needs to tackle with the core program and how it is installed.
